Angeline Lyon

Dr. Angeline Lyon completed her Bachelor's of Arts in Biochemistry at the University of Texas and liked the city of Austin so much that she stayed for her PhD with Professor David Hoffman, with whom she studied the structure of protein motifs responsible for RNA recognition and binding. She then migrated north to the University of Michigan for her postdoctoral training with Purdue alumnus Professor John Tesmer. Dr. Lyon joined the Purdue Department of Chemistry as a faculty member in 2014. She is interested in gaining structural insights into the regulation and activation of Phospholipase C enzymes, which are essential for normal cardiovascular function. Dr. Lyon's research utilizes functional assays and cell-based studies combined with X-ray crystallography and cryo-electron microscopy, and she hopes these studies will aid the development of novel therapeutic compounds for the treatment of cardiovascular disease. When she's not in the lab, you can find Dr. Lyon baking delicious desserts in her kitchen or enjoying the outdoors on long hiking trips.
